| INSIDE RIDE INFORMATION Watch the Global News story about the Inside Ride (Windows Media) Courtesy of Global News (with permssion) Anyone passing by White Oaks Secondary School on Wednesday, April 23rd must have wondered what all the noise was about! The cheers and yells were clearly audible as over 500 students and staff crammed inside the South Cafeteria to participate in the first WOSS Inside Ride! The energy and enthusiasm were contagious over this one-day team cycling event that was held to raise funds to support WOSS student and cancer survivor, Andy Brooks. On June 2nd, Andy will mount his own racing bike in Vancouver, B.C. to start a 19-day cycling trek across Canada, to raise awareness and funds to support children with cancer. Of the 50 riders participating in the National Kids Cancer Ride, Andy will be the youngest rider and the only student rider under the age of 18. To support this phenomenal personal goal, WOSS students and staff responded in kind, forming 60 teams of riders who climbed aboard stationery cycling bikes for 10-minute intervals to complete The Inside Ride. A full 100% of funds raised by these 360 riders will go directly to support children with cancer programs, including summer camps and activity programs during cancer treatment. WOSS spirit has been re-ignited, as students and staff organized over 100 student volunteers, held a quilt raffle, BBQ, ball hockey tournament, a huge prize raffle, and other fun events, all to fundraise enough money to help Andy reach his goal of raising $16,000. To date, we have surpassed this goal by raising almost $25,000! It’s still not too late to support Andy and this worthy cause!
